Admission Requirements
VA DIETETIC INTERNSHIP:
1. Complete a minimum of a bachelor's degree at a U.S. regionally accredited university or college.
2. Successful completion of dietetic coursework approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of The American Dietetic Association (ADA). If completion of dietetic coursework was more than 4 years prior to the application deadline, documentation of both recent education requirements below must be provided on the Recent Education Form(click for the link)
Work Experience - Documentation of dietetic related work experience for a minimum of 24hr/wk for 50% or more of the time since completion of dietetic coursework. Appropriate work experience may include paid or volunteer work in:
a) Clinical nutrition positions
b) Nutrition related or non-nutrition related education positions
c) Nutrition or non-nutrition related management positions
Many positions may be considered dietetics related as long as you can describe how the skills utilized are important and applicable to the field of dietetics.
Education - Documentation of recent education can be completed in two ways:
a). Six semester or 9 quarter hours of general dietetics related course work or in needed areas as identified by the Dietetic Internship Director. Courses in Medical Nutrition Therapy and Food Service Systems Management are recommended.
b). Continuing professional education (CPE) credit as follows: 25 CPE hrs for >4 - 6 years post DPD completion, 50 CPE hrs for >6 - 8 years post DPD completion, 75 CPE hrs for >8 years post DPD completion. ADA self-assessment modules, tapes, tests in journals and seminars can be utilized for CPE credit. CPE credit must be verified with applicant's employer.
3. Grade Point Average: We are looking for a minimum GPA of 3.0. If your GPA is below this, please explain in your letter of application.
4. United States Citizenship
UCLA SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH REQUIREMENTS:
1. Applicants to the Masters program must meet the University minimum requirement of an acceptable bachelor's degree with a B (3.0) average in upper division courses and/or prior graduate study.
2. Satisfactory performance on the verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) taken within the last five years.
CSULB DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. A bachelor's degree with and undergraduate overall GPA of 3.0 and a GPA of 3.0 on the last 60 undergraduate units attempted.
2. A minimum score of 900 on the Verbal and Quantitative sections and a minimum score of 4.0 on the Analytical Writing section of the general Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
NOTE: To be considered for the Combined Internship - Masters Degree track, admission requirements for both the VA Dietetic Internship and the MPH program at UCLA or MS program at CSULB must be met.
