Message from the Director

Dear Veterans,  

On June 9, the VA released results from its Nationwide Access Audit for all Veterans health facilities.   That complete report can be found at http://www.va.gov/health/access-audit.asp.  The audit highlights some national issues, especially the agency’s scheduling system.   As the Director of the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS), I hold my staff to the highest standard and expect each to perform with integrity.

The auditors investigated all allegations of intentional and inappropriate scheduling and at this time we are not aware of any intentional manipulation of data here at VAGLAHS. 

I would like to point out that the report also shows areas for improvement for all VA medical facilities such as working to decrease appointment wait times for newly enrolled Veterans.  I want to assure you that we are committed to serving our Nation’s Heroes with the best healthcare services and will continue to work to resolve any issues related to access to care.  Prior to these audits, our dedicated staff members had already begun to address these issues by developing new strategies to improve access.  For instance, we’ve added Saturday clinics, early morning appointments, and evening clinics to increase the number of available slots.  Recent hires in Primary Care are also helping to mitigate patient wait times as well.

We consider the voice of the Veteran to be very important.  We have long standing advisory and focus groups on patient care, construction design, and overall satisfaction.  The information we receive from these groups is extremely valuable and provides us with keen insight in our success and areas of improvement.  If you are interested in joining a Veteran focus group, please call 310.478.3711 extension 83534.
