Associate Director, Nursing & Patient Care Services

Ms. Marlene Brewster, RN, MS has been with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System for over 25 years. Ms. Brewster was appointed Associate Director for Nursing and Patient Care Services in May 2009. She has held management roles in Neurology and Neurosurgery, Public Health, Student Health, Critical Care, and private sector administration. Ms. Brewster spent the last three years as the Deputy Nurse Executive. Previous to that role, Ms. Brewster was the Associate Chief Nurse-Geriatrics and Rehabilitative Care (GRC), bringing the GRC to higher levels of prestige and repute.  

Ms. Brewster is a member of the Executive Quadrad. Sharp leadership acumen and an outstanding ability to oversee multiple clinical services and hospital operations are demanded of Ms. Brewster to spear-head positive momentum toward successful organizational goal achievement, especially the Nursing Magnet Designation journey. Ms. Brewster is responsible for professional leadership, executive advice, and guidance on Nursing, Pharmacy, and Chaplain Programs and practice; and the integration of these programs into the system and community. She is also accountable for the day-to-day operations of Hospital Services which includes all acute inpatient beds, the Admission/Discharge and Transfer Center, Patient Escort Services, and the Case Management program. As a member of the Executive Leadership team, Ms. Brewster participates fully in policy decision-making and the resolution process of the most complex and sensitive operational issues. She is a full member of the GLA Executive Leadership Board and Resources Council.

Furthermore, Ms. Brewster serves on regional Councils at the VISN 22 level as a member of the Clinical Services Council. Decisions containing her input and for which she advocates impact the clinical systems for Veterans residing in Southern and Central California, and Southern Nevada.
