San Luis Obispo County Begins Veterans Court

LOS ANGELES – VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (GLA) in collaboration with San Luis Obispo County (SLO) Courts begin Veterans Treatment Court on June 14.

“Through the Veterans Treatment Court Program, we can provide our Nation’s Heroes the services and support they need in a patient-centered care environment,” said Donna Beiter, Director GLA.  “The Court acknowledges the service of our Veterans and provides them an opportunity to address their legal matters while taking care of their healthcare needs.”

The SLO County Veterans Treatment Court offers injured Veterans who have non-violent offenses, an opportunity to receive treatment in lieu of imprisonment under the condition they take responsibility for their actions and safely transition back to a peaceful, functional and healthy civilian life.  The Court, in collaboration with GLA, guides Veterans through a phased program that includes mental health care, residential and outpatient treatment, self-help meetings and regular court-review hearings.

“The San Luis Obispo Superior Court is committed to helping our returning veterans who gave so much for each of us,” said John Trice, Judge, San Luis Obispo Superior Court.  “We hope to assist them in accessing veteran’s benefits and other community services to address the underlying causes that have led them to the criminal justice system.”
