Veterans Affairs Community Based Outpatient Clinic Location Awarded in Bakersfield, California

Los Angeles — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Construction & Facilities Management is pleased to announce the award of a major lease in Bakersfield, CA. VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) is the recipient of this lease which was awarded to SASD Development Group LLC for a new Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Bakersfield (Award Notice*).

This developer and the location were selected following a competitive and resolute lease procurement process. The new 30,100 square foot clinic will be located on vacant land located along Knudsen Drive, where Oliver Drive and Knudsen Drive intersect and will serve a projected Veteran market of 208,722 (FY2026).

"[VAGLAHS] is excited to move forward with a new clinic where we will serve more Veterans with some upgraded services to address key areas like mental health, women’s health, and homeless services. While the clinic will see more Veterans, it will also integrate with the vision of the Mission Act by supporting Veteran care through the VA and Community Care vendors," said Robert McKenrick, Executive Director of Clinical Care at VAGLAHS.

The contract utilizes a GSA Request for Lease Proposal documentation to better align the procurement with other federal agencies and the private sector, with an emphasis on increased competition, cost savings and speed to market. VA uses a new set of bidding and contractual documents that simplifies and streamlines the lease-procurement process to encourage more competition and innovation from the market, which in turn speeds up the delivery of VA facilities to provide services to the Veterans we serve.

VA remains committed to providing high-quality care by delivering this project as quickly as possible, while continuing to comply with all Federal procurement laws and regulations.
