LOS ANGELES – VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) in partnership with Greater Los Angeles Fisher House Foundation hosted the second annual Day for Heroes free BBQ and concert featuring Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray in honor of Veterans Day on Nov. 9 at the Wadsworth Theatre on the West Los Angeles VA (WLA) campus.

“VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare system shares a strong commitment with the Greater Los Angeles Fisher House Foundation to care and support our Nation’s heroes,” said Donna Beiter, Director VAGLAHS.  “Our Veterans deserve the best healthcare in a healing and patient centered care environment and we are pleased to recognize and celebrate their service in honor of Veterans Day.”

Kicking off Veterans Day Weekend, greater Los Angeles Veterans, military members and families enjoyed some Texas style BBQ from Smokin’ Steve’s which featured Angus beef brisket, pulled pork, and chicken.  Rickey Minor and the Tonight Show Band provided musical entertainment to audiences members while they enjoyed their grilled BBQ feast.

Following the BBQ, Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray performed their hits “Fly”, “Every Morning”, and “Someday” to a lively audience of 1,000 plus attendees.  Veterans and military members from all services across a mix of eras were seen enjoying the event, some standing up and singing along with the band.  The entire BBQ and concert was free to Veterans, military members and their family and friends.

Celebrations continued on Veterans Day, Nov. 11 with the San Fernando Valley Veterans Day parade.  Over 20 VAGLAHS staff and Veterans marched the mile-long course carrying the VA banner and passing out small American flags to several of the 3,000 people lined along the streets.  This is the 4th year VAGLAHS participated in the parade.
