Research and Development

About the Program

The Research & Development Department of the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System is one of the largest research programs in the Department of Veterans Affairs, with veterans benefiting from a variety of research programs in many significant ways.

Results of our research have led to improved methods of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation that have had a direct impact on veterans' lives. Furthermore, the VA research system attracts highly qualified physicians and surgeons to practice at VA facilities, providing the veteran patients with the highest standards of clinical care.

VA research keeps these clinicians within the system, ensuring continuity in clinical care delivery. Under the direction of the VISN, with an emphasis on primary care, opportunities have been created to strengthen the link between VA's mission of research and scientific discovery and that of providing high quality patient care and medical education.

VA funded research is the cornerstone, the magnet which attracts these talented clinicians, the widely respected university affiliated applicants, as well as other, much needed non-VA financial support.
